Our Direction

Vision for Equity and Excellence: A community of excellence and equity providing a rigorous educational program that supports and challenges each student, eliminating any achievement gap.

We will achieve our mission by high quality , rigorous teaching practices ……….to help students reach deeper levels of understanding.

The staff at Mary Scroggs Elementary School, is committed to nothing less than 100% of our students reaching their individual potential through consistent effort and growth to eliminate the achievement gap.

• As we work to attain our vision we will continue unpacking the Common Core and State Standards to successfully apply acquired knowledge and transfer learned skills and content knowledge.

• Our staff will continue to prioritize the CCSS, focus on problem solving and collaborative learning

• Our teachers will differentiate instruction to meet the unique needs of all learners.

Students will receive interventions using accelerated groupings to decrease achievement gaps as needed.

• We will support our district’s recruitment plan in order to attract teachers from diverse backgrounds and surround ourselves with staff that is committed to embracing the new requirements of 21st century learning, such as focusing on:

o Learning and innovation skills

o Information, media and technology skills

o Life and career skills

In an environment that respects and celebrates diversity of culture, background and individual learning differences, we strive to ensure equity in everything we do, at every level, to promote academic achievement for all students. We will develop moral and ethical values, affirming the worth and dignity of each individual.

o We believe in providing enrichment and support for all students so they can develop intellectual, academic and physical potential to prepare for the challenges facing them now and in the future.

o We believe students should develop and enhance creativity and appreciation of the arts and will provide enriching opportunities for children to grow in this manner.

o We believe that one of our strongest assets we have is our community: our staff, our parents and extended families, our volunteers and, most importantly, our students. Through this richly diverse community, our students will appreciate cultural diversity and develop social responsibility.

We celebrate the positive behavior students demonstrate, and minimize the energy we put towards negative behavior.

It is within this spirit that we approach each day, each week, and each month of the school year.

Mission: Through consistent effort and growth, every child will achieve and succeed!
