Body Mass Index (BMI)


The school has conducted an analysis of the School Level Body Mass Index screening data.
Develop a brief narrative of student BMI trends based on the analysis of the data.

In 2018-2019, VPA overall BMI classification results were as follows: approximately 11.7% of all children measured were in the overweight category, and approxiamtly 28.8% were identified as obese.

The 2018 School Health Index Module 3 data: On the school health survey for module 3, teachers perceived that 79% of this survey had been implemented. The highest implementation was in the amount of time that our students are active during the day. VPA will continue to support a healthy lifestyle for our students.

The LEA will coordinate with child nutrition personnel to ensure menus are reviewed quarterly by the district wellness committee.
The LEA will ensure that the district policy is in compliance with state and federal mandates.
Develop a measurable objective for improving outcomes related to the School Health Index (SHI) Module 4: Nutrition Environment and Services.  The school should provide activities, person responsible and a timeline based on the plan for improvement generated by the school health index.

​Goal 2: The LEA will provide coordination and support to create an environment that promotes physical activity and provides quality physical education for students.

VPA has hired a highly qualified, certified physical education teacher. Students are scheduled for 40 minutes of physical education weekly.

VPA also schedules developmentally appropriate gross motor activities that engage students through structured physical activity twice daily for 20 minutes each.

Teachers use a variety of brain breaks such as GoNoodle to keep students active in the classroom.

VPA's program director is the district's wellness committee representative for our school. She give wellness committee meeting reports to school wellness committee members as well as to all teachers at teacher meetings.

Health and nutrition standards, activities, and resources will be shared electronically with teachers to aid in their professional development.
