Body Mass Index (BMI)


The school has conducted an analysis of the School Level Body Mass Index screening data.
Develop a brief narrative of student BMI trends based on the analysis of the data.

The results of BMI screening during the 2018/2019 school year at Herbert Carter Global Community Magnet showed that 42.3% of males and 39% of females were overweight or obese for the entire school. The numbers tend to trend up for males from Kindergarten at 37.5%, 2nd grade at 40.9%, 4th grade at 41.7%, and 6th grade at 48.5% overweight or obese. The females show less of a trend with Kindergarten at 42.1%, 2nd grade at 55.6%, 4th grade at 32%, and 6th grade at 38.7%.

The LEA will coordinate with child nutrition personnel to ensure menus are reviewed quarterly by the district wellness committee.
The LEA will ensure that the district policy is in compliance with state and federal mandates.

In efforts to increase physical activity, Herbert Carter Global Community will offer athletic opportunities for our students. Before the 2018/2019 school year, no school organized sports were offered to our K-6 students.
